TWO for TWOS-Day

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

Wow, I'm all choked up after reading Debi's entry for today...so I HAD to choose another baby pic myself. Yes, my days are pretty much baby-centric right now as the countdown has truly begun.

I had a trip into L&D yesterday (not for labor)...I'll post about the fun experience later on today. Katie went in with us cause Chris had to come home from work and drive me and he came in to see what room I was being put in just in case it turned in to something that I had to stay for. Anyway, she was just so cute and sweet and when they picked me up later she told me she missed me and baby Timmy SO SO much and that she loves us so much...lol...SO - this experience inspires my Two for TWOS-Day entry for today.

Cousin Paige and 1-month-old Katie

Ever since I have begun to participate in Two for Tuesday hosted by Eight is Great I knew that I wanted to post this picture at some point. Paige was so in love with Katie when she was born and they are just about the same age difference as Katie and Timmy will be. In my hopes of hopes, Katie will hold her little brother with as much awe and devotion as Paige had for Katie. She is already so loving towards him - kissing my belly every chance she gets, always remembering to include him in her list of people that she thanks God for, referring to me as baby's mommy (As in "I love you SO much baby mommy"), and always talking to him and about him....and he's not even here yet!!! I hope this innocence holds for a long, long time and she loves being a big sister.

Friday Foto Finish Fiesta

I love Phriday's and I love Candid Carrie's Friday Foto Finish Fiesta. I ashamed to say, it always gives me a chance to share some phun pics that I wasn't very timely in getting up to begin with. Two weekends ago Chris, Katie, and I went to Storybookland in Egg Harbor Township. It is SUCH a phun place and Katie loves it. We had a great time and even got to meet up with our phriends Max and Elaina and their mommy Oxana.

Katie just recently began watching her Alice in Wonderland DVD, so she was really excited to pretend to be the rabbit.

What a dope!
Just one year ago...

Boy does she LOVE the rides!!!! I'd bore you if I shared all my pics so here's just a phew of her on the roller coaster...her FAVORITE!! Yes, that's her all by herself, thrilled to be in the very front. The second time she road she had both arms up in the air the entire time.

TWO for TWOS-Day

Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Last Monday, Katie and I got to spend some time with our good friends Christy and Josiah since Christy is a teacher and was off for Columbus Day. We had a great time at the Philadelphia Zoo. Josiah's going to be 2 in just a few weeks and he and Katie get along SO well. They had a great time together and especially holding hands throughout the day. They got to ride camels and ponies and even a train and see lots of fun animals. Incidentally, it was after this trip (which was precipitated by all day at Storybookland the previous day) that has made me swear to NO more walking day trips while I'm pregnant. We got lots of great pics of the day, but these are my favorite two-some pics!!!

Don't forget to stop by Eight is Great to see who else is posting about their favorite two-somes today.

Need c-section advice

Monday, October 20, 2008

Since I know I have a few twin mommies reading and at least SOME of you prob had a c-section, I'm pulling out all the stops to get as much input on this question as possible. Well, let me start off by saying that I had one of my now twice a week non-stress tests and my 36 week appt today. They were both noneventful which is good news...since I'm not READY!!! (Although, I do now have a cold AND baby is back into trying to break my pelvic bone apart..so not very comfortable).

Anyway....during my c-section with Katie I had 2 pretty significant skin reactions/recovery problems. First off, I had MAJOR sensitivity to the surgical tape which was harder to deal with than the incision itself and took forever to heal. My doc is working on some alternatives and has assured me that we won't go near surgical tape this time. My other problem was with my actual incision and I have to make a decision regarding how to handle this time. Last time, I had internal stitches that should have dissolved on their own. The doc stiched across once and then doubled back halfway. I healed great in the hospital but then about a week later on once side it started to open up and "leak". I went in and the doc cauterized it...was back open within a day. Finally about a week later we saw stiches poking through and they had be manually pulled out. After that I healed up fine. Nothing was too painful..just worried me cause the leaking made me think it was getting infected..come to find out it was FAT leaking...um hello...I may have let it stay open a little longer before going to the doctor if I had known that :). So this time around, the doctor delivering me said he'll do whatever I want for closing the incision. He does not go back halfway, but in his opinion that was prob only a coincidence that it only opened on one side and he thinks I would likely still have a problem with my body trying to expel. So I can try the internal stiches again and hope for the best and that there won't be a problem since he only goes across the once OR I can get staples or old-fashioned stitches that will be pulled out in a few days. I'd love to hear from anyone who had staples or old-fashioned stitches and let me know how painful it was to have them taken out, if you had any reactions, and if it left any additional scarring. My doctor thinks the staples are the best way to go, but I have read a few places that they can pull a lot while still in and be more uncomfortable than stiches and that they are painful to remove. Granted, I will be taking full advantage of all morphine and percocet offered to me so I'm only really worried about extra pain when moving around. Please let me know if you have any advice!!!!

MY husband

Sunday, October 19, 2008

I first noticed a fun meme at Irish Eyes are Smilin' and then Debi jumped in. She searched valiantly for the origination with no luck...but you can check out her blog to see a few other people who participated.

My Husband
1. He’s sitting in front of the TV: what is on the screen? Futurama, South Park, The Daily Show, Lewis Black's Root of All Evil, football, The Military Channel, The History Channel or something I taped on the DVR for us to watch "together"(Heroes, Lost, Eureka, Prison Break, Terminator, The Office, 30 Rock, Family Guy)
2. You’re out to eat. What kind of dressing does he get on his salad? creamy italian
3. What is one food he doesn’t like? SUSHI...specifically the seaweed part
4. You go out to the bar. What does he order? beer (he's not picky and sometimes likes to try something different) or Vodka/7up
5. Where did he go to high school? Egg Harbor Township, NJ
6. What size shoe does he wear? 13
7. If he was to collect anything, what would it be? miscellaneous computer parts....closets full...
8. What is his favorite type of sandwich? Italian sub w/oil and vinegar
9. What would the Husband eat every day if he could? corn on the cob
10. What is his favorite cereal? Used to be Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but lately various granola varieties
11. What would he never wear? a sweater - not sure if they're just not manly enough for him or just too uncomfortable for him...
12. What is his favorite sports team? Denver Broncos
13. Who will he vote for? he won't...so sad!
14. Who is his best friend? All of Chris's friends are like family to him...but I'd say currently... from high school would be Brett and college would be Wes - although if we're being honest - Wes has always been more of a husband like figure to Chris

Baby Picture Sunday - Halloween

UGHHH - this was supposed to be preposted for NEXT week, but I hit publish post by accident instead of post options :(....ooops, SORRY!!! I'll just have to link back on next Sunday. (AND..I just changed the posting date back to the 19th instead of the 26th so that it doesn't stay at the top of my blog ALL week..grrr!)

Of course it's not Halloween yet, silly! But, Debi wants us to show off our babies this Sunday with some Halloween themed pics. Since I used Katie's second Halloween pics for last week...I suppose I'll use her first Halloween pics this time. No, it's not you...there is a recurring theme of FOOD (only the first two years...but she was so cute - wouldn't you want to just take a bite?). We actually borrowed this costume from Katie's big cousin Paige who also wore it on HER first Halloween. (Katie was only 4 months old...Paige had worn it at 9 months old...)

Waiting for her costume...

Getting cuddles from Paige... STRAWBERRY-LICIOUS!

Make sure you check out who else is showing off their Halloween babies this week at Who Says Eight is Enough?

Baby Picture Sunday - Pumpkins

My sister-in-law Debi had a great idea to show off our favorite baby pictures on Sundays. The theme she picked for this week is "Pumpkins".

I've decided to show off my little "pumpkin" pictures from Halloween 2006 - Katie's second Halloween and the first time she went trick-or-treating.

Posing pretty on Aunt Lori's steps:
Just being silly:
Learning very quickly that candy is YUMMY (I think it was her first time eating candy) and that when Grandmom and Pop-pop Doc and Aunt Kelli put the candy bowl on the floor it's time to LOAD UP...handfuls at a time!!!! Head over to Who Say's Eight is Enough to see who else is showing up their pumpkins this week.

Friday Foto Finish Fiesta - First Dentist Visit

Friday, October 17, 2008

Last Phriday, Katie had her phirst dentist visit for a checkup and cleaning. As is the case with any doctor visit for her, she was excited phor days...such a weirdo.

Here she is getting ready for her cleaning:

All done, showing off her pearly whites:

She had a great time since they had a tv in the room with Dora the Explorer on...she totally zoned out and just watched tv and let them do whatever they wanted to her. The dentist and hygienist were completely amazed at how easy she was. Her teeth and bite are great and we'll see them again in 6 months.

Don't forget to check out Candid Carrie's phun blog to see who else is showing of phun pictures this week.

Way Back When-esday! - Less than 4 weeks to go...

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

In celebration of scheduling the date for my c-section today (well, last night since I pre-posted this)...here are some pics from my last one:

Sure hope they can find scrubs that fit this time around:)

Yes, my girl really was that gosh darn adorable just a few short hours after birth. And - check out all the dark hair she had..so funny that she's a little blondie now.

Alright, in all honesty I'm not really celebrating my delivery date...I'm a bit disappointed in how it turned out. I delivered Katie on a Friday and was hoping for another Friday delivery. It would have worked out perfectly with Katie's school schedule (she's would have been off), was better for Chris for work, and made it convenient for people to visit over the weekend. My practice doesn't schedule deliveries before 39 weeks gestation, but I had been told earlier on that since I was due on a Sat (the 15th), that it would be fine to deliver me on the Friday, the 7th. Well, found out last week, that having gestational diabetes upsets that whole plan because they are even more concerned about delivering too early because gestational diabetes increases the risk of underdeveloped lungs. So, I had my appt tonight with the other doctor on schedule for the 7th and she also told me she wouldn't do it then :(. So, I have to wait until Monday, November 10th. Good news, though, is that I'm not scheduled until 10:00am. With Katie, I was scheduled at 7:30am and had to be there at 6am...and I was SO sick from getting up SO darn early that I couldn't stop throwing up before delivery..and even on the operating table. Hopefully, I'll get to avoid all that this time.

But enough about me :)...head over to Twinfatuation to see who else is playing this week for Way Back When-esday!

Harvest Fun - Weekend Update Part 3 (and a vent..)

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Yes, I know it's pretty pathetic that it's Wed night and I'm STILL writing about the past weekend (and I still have one more day of it to post about).

Before I get to it though...I need to vent a bit. Today has been one of THOSE days. The kind that I feel like I've developed post-partem depression 3 years later. The kind that I would love to have a few glasses of wine to mellow out. The kind of day that I want to punch the dogs in the face if they bark one more time. The kind of day that if I find one more toy outside chewed up by Sophie I am going to start bawling. The kind of day that I just want to be left alone! I feel like the worst mom on the planet cause Katie has been a good girl, just SO clingy. I have not been able to go to the bathroom by myself today (or without being touched). I have not been able to do any task for more than 10 minutes at a time without being interupted. When I hear, "Mooommmy!" today, I feel like someone is scratching a chalkboard...I am spoiled in the fact that I DO have 2 hours to myself every morning...but I feel like I need to disappear for a day. I need a massage...I need to stare at the ocean...I need to do SOMETHING that I can just zone out and not think about anything...oh Debi, please don't be sick, so I can come visit tomorrow and we can be miserable together :)

Ok - I feel a little better...it also helps a bit that my little girl is so darned cute and makes me laugh all day long at her antics that I can't stay frustrated with her for TOO long...

So, this past Saturday, Katie, my BFF Christina, her adorable baby girl Mackenzie, and I had plans to meet up with some friends at Johnson's Farm in Medford. I unfortunately woke up in the morning feeling awful...still had my sugar out of whack from starting the new medication the night before and I couldn't move. I was so nervous I wouldn't be able to go, but after calling in to my OB office - I was told the dose was likely too high and to start taking 1/2 of the pills at a time. Thank goodness that made quite a difference.

So, we got together with our gymnastic friends Max and CJ, their parents, and Max's cutie pie sister Elaina. The kids really had a great time. I was actually suprised by just how excited Katie was about the day. I told her about it a few days in advance and it was all she could talk about. On Saturday morning, as she was getting ready for gymnastics she even said she didn't want to go cause she wanted to go pick apples and pumpkins at the farm. She didn't realize we planned the day so she could do both :).

Here are the pics from our fun, fun, day....

Before & After...Weekend Update - Part 2

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

Before and after my crazy day in labor and delivery on Friday, I managed to capture some great pics.

As usual, Katie was eager to have her picture taken while waiting for the bus...but even more excited to have them taken with "her" new flowers. We had been at the supermarket earlier in the week and she wanted mums so badly, but I knew we would have no room in the cart for them. So, when I ran to the store on Thursday, while she was at school, I went ahead and picked them up. She was "SO happy" when she saw them Thursday that she ran over to them and actually hugged and kissed them....she's so weird!

(and yes, our fault that the Eagles lost Sunday since it always seems to be bad luck for them when Katie wears their jersey on a Friday).

She was a big helper to me all last week in the kitchen. I had been working hard making stews and other freezable meals for after delivery, so Friday night I decided to let her "help me" make cupcakes. A real bummer since I can't even eat any...but I knew it would be a huge thrill for her. Unfortunately, in the middle of making them, my new medicine to help regulate my sugar made me pretty much flatline and Chris had to take over the cupcake making because I couldn't stand up. (And so began the next 18 hours of feeling like I was on death's door). But, I'll save that story for the next post. Katie loved making cupcakes, especially putting on the icing with her Daddy and of course, getting to EAT them!!!!

So far behind......Weekend Update Part 1

Ugh...I've gotten so far behind and have so much to share. I'll prob split into a few separate posts to make working with the pics a bit easier, though. We've had lots of fun stuff to do the last few days and I was pretty busy nesting yesterday...and basically just darn tired today!!!!

So, to start off...due to all the baby commotion that I posted about last Friday, I didn't get a chance to share my pics from Thursday night. On Thurs, I helped my sister out by watching her little guys for a few hours. She had to go to a work meeting and needed someone until my brother-in-law got home from work. Katie LOVES playing with her cousins and was SO excited to see Paige (6), Adam (4), and Ethan (4).

Insert your own witty title relating to speculum torture here...

Friday, October 3, 2008

First off, I'll be back to join in on Candid Carrie's Friday Foto Finish Finesta next week. I've learned recently that when I write 2 posts in one day...one usually doesn't get read if you're linking from a blogroll.

Anywho, my blood sugar has been slightly elevated since yesterday morning - not too high, but I was told to call if I see any pattern of elevation. I'm supposed to be between 60-90 for fasting and 90-120 2 hrs after each meal. I have been staying right within except for some slightly higher fasting readings if I don't eat a big enough snack before bed or if I sleep in a little later. But yesterday, I was 96 (fasting), 131, 87 (huh?), and 153. This morning I was 110 for fasting and 137 after breakfast. So, I called my OB office and while I was on the phone also mentioned my concern about the "leaky" feeling I was still experiencing since last week. I know I was prob just being paranoid, but I was worried cause even though my U/S fluid check was fine last week - I kept thinking well, if it is a slow leak it wouldn't have been low the first day anyway.

So, the nurse called back after speaking to the Dr. He was concerned enough about my sugar readings that he was going to call in a prescription for me and I now need to take 2 pills a day to help keep my insulin in check. He also wanted me to go to L&D to get "swabbed" again for fluid. Apparently, at the hospital they have a definitive test that would definately show if I've had any rupture/leaking as opposed to the 3 tests he performed in the office. Luckily Chris was working at home today, so he was able to stay with Katie.

Interestingly, in speaking with the nurse in L&D and mentioning about my sugar - she asked me about my readings and when I told HER, she was like - oh, they're not bad -they're normal range...which leads me to wonder - why am I on medication then? I do know that pregnant women's "normals" are supposed to be lower than regular diabetics cause the baby is using a portion of the sugar and that is expected to lower #'s, but I would think as an L&D nurse she would know that. She also told me that of my 3 tests I had last week, the one I was positive on was the PH test, which could be caused by a variety of things - fluid is just one of several things that can upset PH.

I saw the same resident as when I went in for my fall a few weeks ago (I think before I began blogging). She seems very unsure of herself and let me just say... is NO expert on using a speculum. OMG!!!! Now, having a speculum exam is never comfortable - BUT - I have had them from certain doctors (my favorite at my practice) where I honestly almost don't feel it - just a tiny bit of pressure. It felt like I was the first person this resident was ever giving an exam to - seriously - I can't even describe how painful it was :(. Then, it seemed as if she had no idea what she was doing with the swab test...the nurse kept correcting her and reminding her of something else she needed to do..GREAT! I whimpered like a cry baby the entire time.

And the results..my fluid is absolutely not leaking and never was..however, it was a good thing I got checked - in addition to checking the swab specifically for fluid, she also examined it under a microscope. And what did she tell me she found? Apparently there's a battle going on "down there" between good and bad bacteria and the bad bacteria is starting to win...otherwise known as bacterial vaginosis. Not sure how long it's been going on, but likely it's what's been causing the "leaky" feelings. I was also having some big contractions while on the monitor which she said could be from the bad bacteria (Ironically, I wasn't feeling any contractions - which proves that I am NOT just a big cry baby and that she really WAS extra awful with the speculum.) I have to take an antibiotic for 7 days and then a cream after I'm done the antibiotic. In my "googling" adventures - I found that "untreated bacterial vaginosis during pregnancy can result in amniotic fluid infection, premature rupture of the membranes, premature delivery, low birth weight of the baby, and possibly pelvic inflammatory disease in the mother." It's, also apparently kind of common to develop during pregnancy. I think I may have even read awhile ago that gestational diabetes can increase the chances of it.

So, I guess it's a good thing I likely peed myself last week and worried for the last week and half that I may be leaking fluid, since it did result in getting treatment for this. Luckily, no ill effects from it since my cervix is still 100% closed, despite any contractions it may have caused.

Way Back When-esday!

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

Here I am at 37 weeks pregnant with Katie.

...and at 40 weeks, 1 day.

Flash forward to this past weekend - I'm not sure that the fact that I'm THIS big at 33 1/2 weeks bodes well for me and the size of this little boy.

Thanks to Debi for the wonderful camera work and blast you for not cutting out my face like I asked...:)
See who else is participating in this week's Way Back When-esday at Twinfatuation.
