Two for TWOS-Day

Tuesday, September 9, 2008

Since I have tons of great pics for this category, I've decided to follow Debi and start participating in Two for TWOS-Day, started by Deanna at Eight is Great.

This theme is to show a favorite "Two-some" pic, whether it be twins, siblings, friends, husband/wife, pets, or anything else you can think of.

I have SO many great two-some pics of Katie and her 6-year-old cousin Paige, but I am in love with these pics..sorry, I couldn't choose between the two :).

These pictures were taken at the beginning of July at my cousin Ryan's 8th grade graduation party. They were just sitting in the yard watching some other cousins play. It was a total coincidence that their outfits matched so well. The girls LOVE to take pictures together, but this was precious to me due to how natural and unstaged it was. The second picture was after I called their names to get their attention after taking the first picture.

A few words on stupidity...

Monday, September 8, 2008

Maybe this is driving me a bit more nuts than usual due to my pregnancy hormones - or perhaps because I lost my job through no fault of my own while incompetent morons of the world keep a job despite having no sense.

1) This one isn't really too big of deal..just a little disappointing. As I mentioned before, on Katie's first day of school we got interviewed for the local paper. I bought 2 copies and almost a 3rd of the article was about Katie ... the only problem ... they used her teacher's name when referring to me and my name to refer to her teacher - so you would never even know it was about MY Katie since she is referred to by first name only and it is implied that she is the teacher's daughter.

2) Dealing with Ashley Furniture:

7/29 - Furniture ordered in store - am told it will take 2-3 weeks for delivery

8/5 - (only one week later) - Chris tells me I need to call Ashley Furniture. TWO people called to tell us our furniture is in and to call the following day between 9:30-4 to schedule delivery.

8/6 - Call at 9:45 am -told that I need to call back, that the appropriate person is not yet in and likely won't be in until after 10.

8/7 - Call at 1pm - told the person I need is at lunch - I asked if anyone else could help me that it is my second time calling and I can't seem to get someone. Was told - WELL do you keep calling during lunchtime? I explained, no I called yesterday at 9:45 when I had been told to call after 9:30 and she says well, she was here then - you couldn't have called at that time. She grudgingly looks up my info and tells me - your desk isn't here yet and we aren't required to deliver until 8/26 (ish) so you need to wait. I was like HELLO - I'm not arbitrarily calling to check on my order - I received TWO phone calls that my furniture was in and to call to set up delivery. After several more phone calls I leave it alone and just wait until the desk is in.

8/13 - 2 more calls that my furniture is in.

8/14 - Set up delivery for the following day. I'm told I'll receive a call in the morning with my delivery window. I stress that I will available all day EXCEPT 4:45-6 since I have to pick up Katie from daycare. Am told, no problem, they will put a note in the computer.

8/15 - Called in the am to be told my delivery window will be 3:30-6:30pm. I flip out. Am told they will put a note in to call me when they are 15 min away...I stress that this doesn't help since I already know when I won't be there. She looks up the delivery route and told me it looks like they're already behind schedule so they'll like come after 6 anyway. A few hours later I get a call to formally tell me they are at least 2 hours behind the delivery window. Actual time of arrival - 9:30pm. They very quickly set up and caught me in the middle of doing something else to sign for delivery cause they still had ANOTHER delivery that night. After they leave, I realize the mirror on Katie's dresser is in really bad shape - gashes in the wood and pretty filthy in some decorative grooves that I can't get clean unless I go over the entire thing with a q-tip. Also, the desk paint looks like complete crap in some areas.

8/21 - I call (within the allowed 7 day window) to ask for a replacement mirror. I'm told that a service guy has to come out to repair since it is just wood damage and not damage to the actual mirror. OK. I will be called beg of next week to set up repair.

8/29 - I come home at night to a voicemail that repair is scheduled for 9/2 and that I will receive a call the night before with a service window. (Never asked if I could be home or to verify if this day would work)

9/2 - I call first thing to tell them I did NOT receive a call the night before, but furthermore I had an appt in the afternoon that I knew I wouldn't be home..could she please let me know what the window was supposed to be. I was told...oh he'll prob just call when he's on his way. I said well being that I will not be here in the afternoon, that's not going to work..I can be home all day tomorrow though. I'm told - oh, no problem she'll just call him and tell him to cancel and add me to tomorrow. She couldn't reach him, but she says no prob, if he gets there and you're there - fine - otherwise I already have you on for tomorrow.

9/3 - 11am - still haven't heard anything. I call to mention that I didn't get a call the night before with a window or so far - can they please verify that I was correctly set up for service today. I was told - you were set up for yesterday - after I gave the whole story - she said well, the person you dealt with is the regular person and she has been here for years so if she said you're set up for today then you are. I verify, should I be concerned that I didn't get a call last night and she said no, he'll prob just call when he's a stop or 2 before your house.

4pm - I call back since I was told they only do service calls until 5pm and I STILL haven't received any calls. I'm told (by someone else, of course) - you were set up for yesterday. I again tell the story and mention..doesn't really matter if I was set up for yesterday since NOONE came yesterday or ever called. I'm told, well they ALWAYS call the night before with a service window so you should have known they weren't coming today if you didn't get a call last night....she actually was pretty nice and helpful though and spoke to her manager and told me they'll just go ahead an order me a brand new mirror. FINE (of course, I still have to be home another day to get delivery of that mirror).

Tonight 9/8 - Hi, this is Ashley Furniture repair - I'm scheduled for repair service at your house tomorrow and calling to give you a window for tomorrow afternoon. I said, I don't think so. You were scheduled for last Tues and then last Wed and supposedly they were supposed to just order me another mirror. He said well, I only go to your town on Tues and Thurs (he clearly had NEVER had me on his schedule for either day the previous week). Of course, I have 2 doctor's appts tomorrow afternoon so I tell him that noone even called to set up tomorrow with me and that I will be out all afternoon, but that I could be home on Thursday. So, apparently I am now set up with the repair man himself to be here on Thursday. We'll see if he shows....but def not cancelling the new mirror until he does...

Baby Picture Sundays - Back to School

These pics are from the morning of Katie's first day ever of daycare in November 2005.

Here's me, getting ready to let my baby go:

And the only reason I was so comfortable with it: Our good friend Kari who was one of the pre-school special education teachers when Katie first started at Here We Grow.

Kari wasn't one of the baby room teachers, but she used to like to steal Katie throughout the week to hang out with her. Her good advice led us to the best baby care takers I could have asked for: Maude, Jean, Lee, and Anna. I truly hope that the little guy on the way gets to spend his days with them as well.

This wonderful thing called pregnancy!

Friday, September 5, 2008

I found out this past Tuesday that I failed my 1 hr glucose test and had to go in one day this week to have a 3 hr test done. I passed the 1 hr with Katie..so I was a little suprised. My blood sugar had tested a little high back in the fall during a physical...but not too bad and at the beginning of my pregnancy it was perfect.

I don't think my test today could have gone much worse....

Well, when I took my 1hr, they told me I had to drink the bottle of orange grossness in 10 min and I barely could. Today they told me 5 min (and that the last one should have been 5 min too). I was on my last gulp and had to RUN to be sick. Thank GOODNESS there was a restroom right next to where I was. I had tried looking at the butterfly murals on the wall and breathing deeply through my nose, but to no avail. So, as I'm throwing up blood starts pouring out my nose (I get nosebleeds a lot from a vein close to the skin, not a big deal) and I can't even deal with it cause I'm throwing up so hard..AND as if that's not a pretty enough picture..every time I heaved I "wet" myself - how embarassing. Afterwards, I was crazy shaking and seeing stars. What fun!!!

Apparently, I was the third person this week to get sick and not be able to finish the test. You'd THINK maybe they could come up with a better way of administering this test - specifically for the pregnant women that get sick easily. I'd rather have sugar injected into my vein than have to drink their orange potion in 5 min. They gave me the option of retaking it another day, redo the 1 hr instead so I don't have to fast (although I fasted for the 1hr) and so Chris doesn't have to stay home again to drop off and pick up Katie, or just proceeding with being treated for Gestational Diabetes. I was thinking about trying to redo...but knowing how hard it was to keep down, I honestly don't know if I can do it in 5 min. Also, apparently my 1hr was pretty high - 156 - and since I drank over 10 min they think it would have been even higher had I drank it correctly over 5 min..so it doesn't seem likely to them that I would pass the 3 hr anyway. Ugh!!

Maybe this explains why I've been feeling so crappy lately sometimes though. Like yesterday, it was such a crappy day..so sluggish and dizzy all day. Well maybe not, I just looked up some gestational diabetes symptoms..apparently you can have no symptoms or excessive pregnancy weight gain, excessive thirst and/or hunger,or frequent urination. Well, my weight gain has been terrific..I'm just about at my prepregnancy weight still - maybe a few lbs over depending on what I've gained in the last week. As for the others..well, who the heck could separate that from regular pregnancy symptoms?

Comments, comments

Hmmmm....so I have enabled comments on "new posts", but it still didn't add a comments section to my first post. Let's see if adding THIS post will update it...

NOPE!

Well, at the very least you can comment on my very first post on THIS post, now.

Oh alright, already! (AKA Katie's first day of school)

Finally, by popular demand (well...Debi's anyway): My very first blog entry! I actually created this blog months ago but couldn't really get myself started in the wake of everything else on my plate..of course none of those things would ever get done, but I couldn't really justify adding one more thing to my to do list. However, ever since I actually created the blog, everytime something big would happen I would think to myself..oooh, that would be a great first blog entry. At first, I really wanted to post about the death of my beloved feline friend Bailey (and I still will). Then last week, I wanted to vent about being layed off by the company I loyally worked at for EIGHT years...oh I'm sure, I'll still get to that...but what get's the all important first blog? Katie's first day of school.

Katie has been in daycare at St. John of God's Here We Grow daycare in Westville, NJ since she was 4 1/2 months old and I'm so sad to leave the good friends we've made there - from the other kids Katie has grown up with to the wonderful teachers who have felt like part of our family. Katie received speech therapy through early intervention from December 2007 until the end of June (right before her 3rd birthday). Since then we've been waiting to find out if she would be eligible for our township special needs preschool. While I was desperate for her to continue to receive speech therapy..I was also very confused about how the situation would be handled. The program is 5 days a week from 8:55am to 11:25am. The township will bus to a daycare or babysitter, but only within the township and Here We Grow is not in our township. I was stressed about putting her through so many changes at one time (new preschool, new afternoon daycare, AND new baby on the way in November) but as much as losing my job stinks and as sad as I am about leaving Here We Grow - at least we have a short term solution of me being home with Katie after preschool..so Katie did make it into the township program and is going to be receiving much needed speech therapy and possibly needed occupational therapy on fine motor skills twice a week each.

My little girl was so excited this morning to go to her new big kid's school. She actually is going to the school that will be her elementary school down the road.

Sadly, she didn't get to ride the school bus today because we just had her eligibility meeting this past Tuesday and it's going to take until next Wednesday to get her set up with transportation..but secretly I'm glad I got to drive her in for her first day and meet her teacher. The local newspaper approached us right away as we walked up and asked to interview us for a story (I'm guessing since Katie is just so darn cute and was clearly so excited.) She loved seeing all the school buses AT the school and wanted to get on them so badly..but she'll have her big day next week. We got to see little Sarah from our Little Gym class and the girls were so excited they almost knocked each other down hugging. So, we met her new teacher at the main entrance. Actually, she has a long-term sub until February because her actual teacher is on maternity leave and from the looks of it she had no problem fitting right in with her new teacher.
