Without a hitch

Too busy to pose for pictures!

Yesterday marked Katie and Timmy's first day of daycare, and Tim's first day in daycare ever. He was off, busy playing, the second his coat was hung up. I knew he'd be a little sad after I left. Except he wasn't. Katie was so busy playing that she refused to even submit to a "first day" photo. When I returned, two hours later, they were gushed over and I was assured my children were SO sweet. Timmy saw me, came over to hug me and then ran away. His new teacher giggled and explained, "Oh, he wants to show you his goldfish!" And indeed she was right. My little snack monster had gone back to the snack table, grabbed a handful of goldfish, and ran back to show me exlaiming, " Mum, mum, mum" the whole way back. He held them up to me, showed his charming smile and gobbled them down. Monday he will have the first go at napping at daycare. That's my biggest concern.

I wish I could say the rest of the day went so well, but shortly after coming home from her district pre-school, Katie proceeded to yack all over my kitchen table and floor. Through 1am she couldn't keep even a sip of pedialyte down. Katie is not always the most verbally descriptive child, but my God, when she came into me every 10 minutes because she was "so thirsty and could NOT keep her mind off of her juice," it was one of the hardest things I've had to do as a parent. The pediatrician told us to switch our tactics and provide nothing at all to drink until she hadn't been sick for 4 hours. It was a long night. Thankfully, she's feeling better today.

I'm also participating in Saturday Snapshots, hosted by Twinfatuation.

Poor Katie; Lucky me!

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

Katie woke up with croup today. Sad enough, but really bad because we were supposed to go to Sesame Place with 3 other families we are friends with. I felt so sad for her this morning because she was SO excited to go. In the last few days that we just hung around our house and she begged for something "really, really fun" to do, I played up this trip and how exciting it was going to be. Last night, we went on the Sesame Place website and I showed her pictures of every ride there. So, even though Timmy and I both already had colds, we were going to suck it up because Katie was stoked.

You know it's bad when even the most excited kid admits they should stay home. She came into me this morning coughing and crying that "She never had this bad cough before." (said that way because she often has some kind of a cough, but apparently she just has a short memory since she does have croup at least once or twice a year.) She so sadly told me that something was "really, really wrong". My heart was breaking. Luckily getting to eat three popsicles in a row took some of the sting of having to stay home all day away. I also promised we would go another day. Yay!

I have to admit...I was just a little relieved that she got sick this morning. I feel like crap, the baby feels like crap and then at 3am last night I remembered we were so supposed to pack lunches. Yea, I'm not feeling too upset that we had to stay home today.

Poor Katie will soon learn that this is the way of the world, at least if she has my luck. Yes, I'm getting my first real getaway on my own this Thursday-Sunday. I'm going to Vegas for my cousin's wedding by myself (with my aunt and mom). I've been looking forward to it for weeks, but now I'll likely have this darn cold the entire time AND if I'm really lucky, and I likely will be, I will have my "friend" with me for the entire trip...the one that makes it a pain in the ass to go swimming. Did I mention it's over 100 degrees there this weekend?

Baby Picture Sunday - I Scream, You Scream

Sunday, May 31, 2009

Playing along with Debi for Baby Picture Sunday this week...because I still can't bring myself to start going through all the Christening pics...but soon...very soon. She picked I Scream, You Scream as her theme this week...hmm, could be ice cream related, could be crying kids..but what really makes everyone scream over here is sick kids. Here's a throwback to May 2006. Katie looks innocent enough, but check out the video. As you may have guessed, we're currently miserable over here in the Other Bouf house. Katie started coughing again Friday night at my mom's house. Tim's been back to snotty, coughing teething since Wednesday afternoon (as soon as grandma and grandpa left). In addition to his two bottom teeth, he also now has FOUR upper teeth either broken through or right at the surface. And then there's me...dying for a good night's sleep and now with a sore throat myself. Timmy actually slept through the night last night...could have been the children's Benadryl..of which Chris says we're now giving him EVERY night. But what happens when Timmy actually sleeps...Katie's up of course. It never fails...every single time. About 3am she had coughed so hard that she threw up in her bed. Fun times! Miraculously she feeling a "little better" this morning.
